The Simplicity of Godliness

Godliness in Jesus Christ

Do you see beautiful people sharing pics of their well-trained bodies? How hard they must have worked. How much they must have sacrificed!

Perhaps you exercise regularly yourself – and you should!

But don’t stop there. There’s something that will profit you even more than physical training.

The Bible teaches,

Train yourself to be godly. “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it. 1 Timothy 4:7b-9 NLT

Surely you want benefits in this life! And surely you want to store up benefits for your life in heaven.

The Bible teaches us to take time for “godliness training”.

How does that work?

The Bible gives us the answer again:

It is quite true that the way to live a godly life is not an easy matter. But the answer lies in Christ, who came to earth as a man, was proved spotless and pure in his Spirit, was served by angels, was preached among the nations, was accepted by men everywhere, and was received up again to his glory in heaven. 1 Timothy 3:16 TLB

Dear friend, the secret to godliness lies in Christ Jesus.

Is Jesus your Saviour? Is he your Lord?
Have you been completely forgiven by his finished work at the cross?
Is Jesus your perfect righteousness?
Do you trust him to guide you daily, step by step?

Do you train yourself to think on the simplicity and power of the gospel, every single day?

When you take time to be completely full of our Lord Jesus, you become godly. And then you will profit in this life, and in the life to come – much more than physical exercise can benefit you!
